Slavko Moljac And His Modelling Journey

The 645: Where did you grow up?

Slavko: I was born and raised in Serbia. I left Serbia in 2011 to move to Dubai.

The 645: What was your first job and where?

Slavko: It was in December 2011, when I moved to Dubai. So yeah, as a first job I was working as security for clubs and restaurants. When I first moved here I couldn’t speak English at all, so I was searching for a job just to get something and stay in this country and start a new life.

The 645: How was that?

Slavko: Easy, I just stood there doing nothing, Dubai is a very safe country, so nothing ever happened. It was a little bit boring but for a first job, it was okay.

The 645: What job are you doing now?

Slavko: I’m a full-time model exclusively working with MMG Models in Dubai, while on the side doing some freelancing personal training. That’s only when I have time, but in this season, it can get very busy.

The 645: How did you get into modelling?

Slavko: I had a couple of pictures and videos from Serbia, I sent them to the agencies here in Dubai after some friends recommended the agencies here. So that’s how I slowly started to work with them. Then agencies asked if I wanted to stay working for them with a provided visa, so I did that. Now I’m still with them.

The 645: When did you realise you wanted to be a model?

Slavko: To be honest I never wanted to be a model. But it was more accidental because I wanted to explore the world a little bit away from my country and out of my comfort zone. I did some music videos for a singer in Serbia and everyone pushed me to do some modelling jobs too. So, I thought, why not give it a try. So, I came here and sent my portfolio and people started to call me like crazy. I was surprised.

The 645: Why model in Dubai?

Slavko: My friend was here, he told me to come as Dubai is a growing city. A lot of modelling jobs, good payments, so that’s why I came.
Plus, the weather, June – Aug is hell but still better than -10 degrees.

The 645: What’s your best experience so far in modelling?

Slavko: I have a lot, to be honest, I love to do fashion shows, so one of the best shows I did was for Armani here in Dubai. It was really cool. Especially as he wanted top Italian models. We also have events happening here, like for Cartier and other brands for more instore showcases.

The 645: What’s your least liked experience so far modelling?

Slavko: Not many, my agency is good, and the clients here are really good. In Europe, I have heard of models getting used a lot. But here it’s a very different market. More relaxed.

The 645: Who do you aspire to?

Slavko: No one really.

The 645: What’s your personal style?

Slavko: More sportswear.  I like to spend days at the beach playing volleyball or basketball. I’m really sick of wearing clothes and many styles, so that’s why I’m really casual.

The 645: How about your favourite travel destination?

Slavko: I was surprised by Moscow. I was there for Christmas and I went to one of the oldest churches in the world, the Kremlin. It was amazing but very cold, yet a good time.

The 645: Least favourite travel destination?

Slavko: Maybe Riyadh Saudi Arabia it was quite cool, but a little boring nothing to do.  No reason to go unless to work.

The 645: How about your favourite film? Or a TV show?

Slavko: I do like Peaky Blinders, great show.
Movies, there is a lot of films, Leonardo DiCaprio, he’s one of my favourite actors.

The 645: What’s your favourite & least favourite food?

Slavko: Grilled steak, shish taouk, and grilled home-cooked Serbian food that I grew up with. Least favourite for me is Mexican food, it’s too spicy.

The 645: Your worst habit?

Slavko: Biting my nails.

The 645: Your Greatest Fear?

Slavko: I don’t have one. Really none. I think it’s all about planning. When you plan something it always happens. And when you do good things, those good things come back to you. You should have no fear.

The 645: What advice would you give to a model starting out?

Slavko: Just to work hard.
Models are lazy and expect to get paid for doing nothing. When it comes to commercial eCommerce, they are always complaining they have too much to shoot. Don’t be lazy, do your jobs and do what the client wants, leave the office with a smile and you’ll get a call again.

The 645: Tell us something no one knows about Slavko?

Slavko: (Laughs) I don’t have secrets. Well, I love cars and bikes.

My father owns a mechanic’s electric car service for a long time. More than 25 years, so one day I’ll take over that.

I’m planning to open a car wash and tire service, like a pit stop. Full service.

We have a nice location for the workshop.

It will be very different to go from modelling in Dubai to the car service in Serbia. I’m here in Dubai to save money to invest in the business to make it my own.
